Dear readers,

We bring you the results of the Erasmus plus Youth Exchange project “INVICTUS – Inclusion via Culture of Sports”. This project took place in Zagreb from 29.08. – 05.09.2020., involving more than 70 young people with special needs and fewer opportunities.

Through various presentations and exercises, in 8 days young people were introduced to Martial arts and various exercises as a skill to strengthen their body, spirit and confidence. The participants learned this in a safe, friendly and fun way in an international environment where they developed other skills such as English language communication and cultural skills.

This project is funded by the European Union and is part of the Erasmus plus programme and includes young people from Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia. The organizer of the project is the Taekwondo Club Maksimir, which is one of the active clubs in Paralympic sports and activities. Project partners are Association WalkTogether from Bulgaria, Asociatia Babilon Travel’s (ABT) from Romania and STOWARZYSZENIE AKTYWNOŚCI PRZERÓZNYCH niemarudni.pl from Poland.

The reason for implementing this project is the inclusion of people with disabilities and fewer opportunities in society, giving them the opportunity to learn tools and a range of skills that will help them develop their physical and social skills.

Objectives of the project are:

  1. To develop skills and key competences of young people with disabilities and/or fewer opportunities needed for their full participation in society
  2. To use martial arts and physical activity as methods to develop health, self-confidence and self-appreciation of young people with disabilities and/or fewer opportunities
  3. To sensitize the public to promote acceptance and diversity of people with disabilities and/or fewer opportunities in their local communities
  4. To promote social inclusion of young people with disabilities and/or fewer opportunities through sports and physical exercise
  5. To learn about and embrace the cultural, physical, personal and other differences, so that diversity becomes a positive source for learning rather than the cause for negative competition and prejudice
