“The Impact of Us 2” – Empowering Youth Through Sports and Inclusion

In October 2024, Zagreb will host an extraordinary project, “The Impact of Us 2,” an Erasmus+ KA1 youth exchange. This initiative, funded by the European Union, brings together 65 PARTICIPANTS from Bulgaria, Romania, and Croatia for an inspiring week from October 23nd to October 30th, 2024.

The project is funded by the European Union and coordinated by Taekwondo Klub Maksimir from Zagreb, with partners Asociación Babilon Travel from Romania and ArTeam from Bulgaria. Together, these organizations aim to tackle some of the most pressing issues young people with disabilities and fewer opportunities face in their daily lives.

A Continuation of Success: Building on “The Impact of Us” 2022

“The Impact of Us 2” is a direct continuation of the highly successful project “The Impact of Us” that took place in 2022. The first edition achieved remarkable results by engaging youth with disabilities and fewer opportunities, empowering them through sports and social inclusion. Participants from the 2022 project reported significant improvements in their self-confidence, social skills, and motivation to stay active. The success of that initiative inspired the creation of this second edition, building on the same foundation while expanding its reach and impact.

The 2022 project also fostered strong partnerships between organizations in Croatia, Romania, and Bulgaria, leading to even greater collaboration in this new edition. The experiences and outcomes from “The Impact of Us” have shaped the goals and activities of “The Impact of Us 2,” ensuring even better support and opportunities for participants in 2024.

A Project Born from Real-Life Challenges

What makes “The Impact of Us 2” unique is that it was developed by young people with disabilities and fewer opportunities, who identified the very challenges they face. From mental and physical barriers to social and environmental obstacles, the project addresses a broad spectrum of issues. Participants recognized that the lack of accessible physical activities, insufficient professional support in schools, and a shortage of inclusive spaces often leave them feeling isolated.

The emotional and psychological impact of sports and physical activities on these young people is profound. Engaging in these activities not only contributes to their physical well-being but also fosters personal growth, builds self-confidence, and creates a sense of community. The need to make sports more accessible and inclusive is at the heart of this project.

Project Goals and Objectives

“The Impact of Us 2” seeks to go beyond just raising awareness—it’s about creating lasting change in how young people with disabilities or fewer opportunities engage in physical activities. Some of the key goals include:

  • Increasing knowledge on how and where to exercise, and how to adapt physical activities for different abilities.
  • Promoting social inclusion by developing participants’ social skills and creating an environment of support.
  • Building confidence and self-esteem through active participation in sports and recreational activities.
  • Encouraging motivation to stay physically active, even in the face of challenges.
  • Developing intercultural skills by connecting participants from different countries and fostering a sense of belonging to the wider European community.
  • Highlighting Erasmus+ programs and the Youthpass certificate, which recognizes the learning outcomes gained during the exchange.

A Collaborative Approach to Overcoming Barriers

One of the main strengths of this project is the collaboration between the three partner organizations from Croatia, Romania, and Bulgaria. Each brings a unique perspective to the table, creating a more holistic approach to addressing the challenges faced by young people with disabilities.

The project isn’t just about physical activity—it’s also about building connections, breaking down stereotypes, and empowering youth to take control of their own lives. By fostering an inclusive environment, “The Impact of Us 2” ensures that every participant feels valued and capable of achieving their potential, both physically and socially.

Looking Ahead

As “The Impact of Us 2” prepares to launch, it stands as a testament to the power of youth-led initiatives and the importance of addressing real-world challenges through creative solutions. By empowering young people to take an active role in shaping their own futures, this project embodies the spirit of Erasmus+ and the ongoing commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Stay tuned for more updates as we work to create a stronger, more inclusive community for young people across Europe through the power of sports and physical activity.
